Mrs. Ye Yumin, the current Art Director and Conductor of Shanghai Philharmonic Choir, major in Vocal with Professor Liu Ruoe, graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music with bachelor degree in 1993. She began her master courses in Central Conservatory of Music in 2003, major in Choral Conducting with the famous conductor, professor Yang Hongnian and Professor Xiao Bai.
In 1991, Mrs. Ye joined Shanghai Philharmonic Choir. Later she became the Art Director and Chief Conductor and established Shanghai Philharmonic Lady’s Choir in 2003, Shanghai Philharmonic Children’s Choir in 2004 and Shanghai Philharmonic Chamber Choir in 2006. At the same year of 2006, she was appointed as the Conductor of Taiwan Cai Yun Choir.
In her art career, Mrs. Ye has cooperated with lots of famous conductors both in China and abroad for masterpieces including mixed chorus, a cappella and chorus accompanied by symphony.
Combined the western conducting skill with the characteristics of Chinese traditional music, Mrs. Ye has formed her unique style to express the artistic conception of each pieces. In recent years, she has led her choir to take an active part in the international chorus competition and got excellent achievements. Their footprints have been through main land China, Hong Kong, Macao and some other places such as United States, Europe countries, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia, etc. Aiming at a better integration of western music styles and Chinese music, Mrs. Ye creates opportunities for her choir to communicate with other famous choirs all over the world which helps her choir to form the unique performing characteristics.
‘Chorus is a great artistic expression; so many different voices resonate in a perfect harmony which is actually a communication between their heart and soul. We are trying our best to make more people to feel the same way as we do.’ This is Mrs. Ye’s idea to make the choir a better one in China.
